The UWCA creates great adventures for youth, families, and adults on the Mississippi River. Join us for a day trip, overnight camping trip, or multi-day trip. It's an experience that will last a lifetime.
The UWCA program is a collaboration of Wilderness Inquiry, the National Park Service, the Mississippi River Fund, and many other organizations. Together, we work to connect people to the outdoors.
Wilderness Inquiry: Since 1978 Wilderness Inquiry (WI) has served over 300,000 people on outdoor adventures throughout the world. A non-profit organization, WI’s mission is to engage people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities in shared outdoor adventures. For the UWCA, WI provides scheduling, planning, staff, fundraising and logistical support.
The National Park Service: In 1988 Congress established the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area (MNRRA) to protect and enhance one of the greatest rivers of the world—the Mississippi River. For the UWCA, the National Park Service provides rangers for the river experiences, curriculum, planning and logistical support.
The Mississippi River Fund: The Mississippi River Fund’s mission is to strengthen the enduring connection between people and the Mississippi River and build community support for the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. For the UWCA, the Mississippi River Fund provides fundraising and planning support.
There are many other partners in the UWCA program. Each partner provides a unique contribution to make the UWCA successful. For example, the Minneapolis Public Schools provide access to thousands of students to participate in the UWCA, St. Paul Parks and Recreation provides access to the Mississippi at Hidden Falls, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources provides access to overnight camping at Ft. Snelling State Park. We appreciate and encourage your patronage of these businesses and organizations.
